Held August 4, 2007
in Calgary, Alberta

The 2007 National Specialty was a huge success. We had a beautiful day to show off our Airedales, with the sun shining and somewhat lower temperatures than we had been experiencing. Probably the biggest hitch in the specialty was the scheduling by the Kennel Club, which put us about an hour behind schedule and left little time for our trophy committee to set out all of the beautiful trophies.

We had a good entry, with enthusiasts coming from Virginia, Montana, Idaho, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and, of course, Alberta. In Sweeps there were seven in the Juvenile classes and two entries in Veteran. In the regular classes, we had a total of 22 entries. We also had a Brace, two Stud Dog and Get entries and a Brood Bitch and Progeny entry. We also had entries in Obedience, Agility and Rally.

The Specialty started with Sweepstakes with Kelly Wood from Kitchener, Ontario judging. We had a lovely large ring and Kelly gave everyone ample opportunity to show off their dogs movement.

Best in Juvenile Sweeps was Indus Winsea Spellbound (Am/Can Ch Indus Just Mad about Harry x Ch Winsea's Great Escape to Indus) - Breeder Joanne Helm; Owner Helen Arnold, Calgary.

It was a weekend filled with camaraderie. I would to thank all competitors who came from near and far for supporting the show and making it the success it was.

As with any special event, there are many people to be thanked for their support. I would especially like to thank Purina for sponsoring our Specialty. They provided our wonderful competitor bags as well as lots of great prizes. Thanks to Purolator, who made it possible for the National trophies to get to and from Calgary.

Thanks also to:

  • Talisman Energy for printing the premium lists, catalogues and providing financial support
  • Carol Robson & Shawndee Airedales for their financial contribution
  • Winsea Airedales for contributing the wine for the Welcome Reception and Specialty BBQ
  • Rory Sutton, Debbie Brunke, Carol Lumley and Kevin Watson, our workhorses, who come year after year to help set up, take down, organize trophies and prizes, flip steaks - and the list goes on!
  • All of the silent auction contributors. We had some wonderful items. Thanks to Joanne Helm for organizing the auction.
  • My sister, Fran Mester - who is really into Afghan hounds - for donating the toys, etc. in the competitors bags.
  • My sister, Evelyn Dewhirst (a collie enthusiast), who is a master organizer and looked after all the hospitality - including catering the Specialty BBQ - and my nieces, Bethany, Robyn and Lisa, who helped with everything from poop patrol to showing my young dogs!
