Ontario Fun Day 2006

Charming costumed guests begin to arrive

We had beautiful weather, with 63 Airedalers and 38 Airedales in attendance.

Our hostess with the mostess was one of our many volunteers, Jan Whaley. Jan greeted everyone and registered the families and dogs. As people began to arrive with their pot luck donations for the lunch table, Tracey Homes and Cathy Dillon set up the buffet table.

Wanda and Ron Purvis organized the display of items at the Silent Auction Table and Ron announced the winners of the items. Teenagers working for their high school volunteer credits were busy moving tables, setting up deserts, filling doggie water bowls and taking photographs. Many thanks to Rachel Purvis, Kelly Johnson and Michael Zemaitis.

Bob Reed and Roy Aitchison were our master barbecuers and barbecued all the sausages and sundry to perfection. I understand that a few participants were overwhelmed when six foot (plus) Bob Reed asked them “to open their buns” for the sausage!

When lunch was ready everyone settled down to the feast and then the cake competition began. Donna Gates judged the cakes and declared the wonderful log style cake with an Airedale on top to be the most unique. Pat Morris won for the best conformation Airedale cake. The cake had rust coloured coconut for furnishing on the legs. Very clever! Best puppy cake was a wonderful iced puppy Airedale.

Ontario Fun Day 2006

Lots of smiles, both human and canine

Tickets for a raffle basket were sold by Pat Morris and raised $230.00. These funds covered all the expenses for the Fun Day including the Park permit! The basket was full of Airedalia, including a bottle of wine with an Airedale on the label. The basket was won by Club President, Roy Aitchison.

Ami Olgivie of Eukanuba generously donated prizes for the day. The door prize of a Eukanuba duffle bag was won by AireCanada representative Barbara Durance.

Wanda and Ron Purvis presented their silent auction. Members and guests enjoyed the Airedalia selection and many went home with new treasures. The Auction raised $356.00. Thank you to everyone who donated items for the table.

Ontario Fun Day 2006

Handsome boy in a tuxedo

John Ross judged the Airedale dress-ups. Many of the contestants had gone to a great deal of trouble. The winner of the contest was a handsome young Airedale boy in a doggie tuxedo.

Karen Green, Jan Whaley and James Tracy finished the day with games and relays for children and adults alike, with more prizes from Eukanuba.

By the end of the afternoon, there were many sleepy puppies! Thank you to everyone who made the day special and to all our volunteers who made it possible. See you next year!
